Stewardship Discussion

-          Mike Gleason from the Archdiocese of Chicago led a discussion on Stewardship.

-          Discussion about the next steps for St. Alphonsus

o   Meeting the needs of the demographics our parish

o   The stewardship committee and its ties to the parish council

-          The next step is for the stewardship subcommittee of the parish council to meet and transition the responsibilities to a formal stewardship committee.

Miscellaneous

-          Next meeting is All Council meeting discussion for April 3^rd

o   Recommended topics for the meeting are to discuss the Archdiocese Strategic Plan and Athenaeum plans. The all council meeting date is set for Sunday April 3 after the 5 pm mass.

-          Next Parish Council meeting will be held on May 9th

All Council Meeting

-          Fr. Hurlbert led a discussion on the council accomplishments on the targets for 2010. The visibility subcommittee of the Parish Council completed the target of publishing each members profile in the bulletin and online. The ministry fair target was decided to be accomplished in a different method than a traditional ministry fair. The council decided to include this in the talent portion of stewardship. The stewardship subcommittee has been provided information monthly in the bulletin on time, talent and treasure.

-          We discussed council members attending other parish group meetings and reporting back to the full council on a periodic basis.

Parish Council Meeting Format

-       The council discussed the format and frequency of the meetings. The options discussed were leave the council meetings every month with the same structure, have the meetings once per quarter with the off months designated for subcommittee meetings or have the meetings once per month with time designated to work on subcommittee projects. This discussion will be carried over to the next meeting.

Deanery Council Update

-          Dave Grzenia updated the council on the upcoming revision to the roman missal. He also discussed the realignment and rebalancing of the vicariates in the archdiocese.

-          No Parish Council meeting for February

-          Next Parish Council meeting will be held on Monday, March 21st

-          Next meeting is All Council meeting discussion for April 3^rd

Ministry Fair

-          Explore a virtual ministry fair

-          List 5 ideas to give parishioners options to get involved

o   As a group we decide who will be highlighted (group vote in October for 3 months out)

Stewardship Committee

-          Stewardship corner to be implemented for October 3^rd bulletin

-     During the October meeting we’ll identify the upcoming topics to allow

2010-2011 Parish Council Wish List

-          Invite Finance committee to come back and update council on happenings

-          Discuss topics outside of regularly served- up items in upcoming meetings

-          Explore ideas on ways for people to expand on their personal and spiritual growth

-          Revisit the memorandum on formalizing the relationship between Alphonsus Academy and St. Alphonsus Parish

-          Parish council membership, rotation and tenure consideration

News from Fr. Hurlbert

-          Oktoberfest is coming up with expected attendance records

o   USA Today listing of top 10 Oktoberfest in the country

o   College alumni outreach

o   Extended hours inside for bands until 11am

o   Guinness book of world records for card playing

-          FOCCUS with Jen and Brian Lunt

o   Looking to recruit more couples to facilitate. All recommendations are welcome

-          St. Alphonsus is pleased to announce the establishment of the Knights of Columbus with the first initiation meeting of Thursday, Sept. 9^th

-          School started and enrollment is at 373 students (up 50 students from last year).

-          RCIA and the choir is starting up again for the school year

-          Business license are approved to operate the parking lots

DISCUSSION TOPICS
Deanery Council Update: Tim Bradbury presented the following questions that the Deanery Council would like the council members to think about: What initiatives are there to help families pass on the faith; What initiatives are available to draw people to the Church; What initiatives are in place for the youth to have a concrete experience with Christ in their lives?

New Parishioners: In order to gain broader insights on new Parishioners, more information will be collected during the registration process, at the new Parishioner dinner or other orientation channels. The main objective is to understand how new Parishioners heard about St. Alphonsus Parish, their areas of interest or organizations that Parish offer and other related factors that we as a Council can learn and grow from. The Parish Council continues to actively seek feedback. If Parishioners would like to share their thoughts, please email: xxx.xxx
Stewardship Corner Update: Programs that fall under the Stewardship umbrella for December include the Giving Tree. More information on this and other related programs for that month will be published in the December e-newsletter as well as the December bulletin. Stewardship efforts will have a full launch beginning in 2011 January 2011 with monthly spotlights to relate specifically to one of the following themes: Time; Treasure; or Talent.
